Killer Joe nabs Best Comedy and Best Direction from the Austin Critics’ Table Awards
Killer Joe finished off the awards season by nabbing two awards from the 2010 Austin Critics’ Table Awards held last night at Cap City Comedy Club. Capital T took home one of the top honors as Killer Joe was named BEST COMEDY at the awards ceremony. Other nominees in the category were Black Snow, Tutto Theatre Company bobrauschenbergamerica, Mary Moody Northen Theatre, Body Awareness, Hyde Park Theatre, House of Several Stories, Imagine That Productions, and The Taming of the Shrew, The Hidden Room Theatre.
In an open field that made no distinction between directing a musical, a drama, or a comedy, Cap T Artistic Director Mark Pickell won BEST DIRECTION honors for 2010 for his direction of Killer Joe. The critics also honored Beth Burns for her direction of The Taming of the Shrew. Nominees for Best Direction included Madge Darlington/Shawn Sides, Dionysus in 69,David Long, bobrauschenbergamerica, Michael McKelvey, John & Jen, Graham Schmidt, The Cherry Orchard, Ken Webster, The Collection/The Atheist, and Dustin Wills, Murder Ballad Murder Mystery/Black Snow.
Current Bug and former Killer Joe ensemble member Joey Hood also took home top honors in acting winning BEST LEADING ACTOR for his solo performance in The Atheist produced at Hyde Park Theatre last Spring.
