Hand to God

by Robert Askins

Directed by Mark Pickell

August 18-September 17

Thursday – Saturday at 8pm

Hyde Park Theatre   511 W. 43rd St

Austin, Texas

In a church basement in Cypress, Texas, something evil is afoot. Well, okay — at hand. The church youth group has a monster in its ranks: a rogue puppet named Tyrone. He’s hijacked the hand of timid teen Jason and there’s nothing his classmates, his mother, or the pastor can do to exorcise this foul-mouthed demon.

HAND TO GOD is a hilarious and provocative new comedy about good and evil, sex and sin, faith and the filthy mind of one twisted sock puppet.

All hell is breaking loose at Hyde Park Theatre for the Regional Premiere of this hot Broadway hit, directed by Mark Pickell and starring Kenneth Wayne Bradley (YEAR OF THE ROOSTER), Chase Brewer (PUNKPLAY), Theresa Baldwin (A BRIEF HISTORY OF HELEN OF TROY), Rebecca Robinson (DETROIT), and Brad Rothwell.

Running Time: 1hour 55 minutes with one intermission.

“Disturbingly Funny!”

– Austin Entertainment Weekly

“Capital T Theatre’s “Hand to God” is a first-rate production of a first-rate black comedy, with a beyond first-rate lead performance; it is not to be missed.”

– Austin American-Statesman

“Robert Askins wrote a marvelous play in Hand to God, and Capital T Theatre does it full justice in its production at Hyde Park Theatre.

– Central Texas Live Theatre

“The star of “Hand to God,” though, is Chase Brewer, who plays Jason, the boy whose troubled soul creates Tyrone, an evil, angry puppet with a thirst for sex and blood. Brewer is phenomenal in the role, appearing both vulnerable and maniacal from one second to the next as he, essentially, portrays two characters at the same time. His performance is a true tour de force, and it is his believability that brings the audience along for the show’s wild ride.”

-Austin American-Statesman

“HAND TO GOD is a perfectly produced piece of theatre that gets my highest recommendation. Make your reservations now, because this show will sell out.”
